A Day for Remembrance – December 6th Vigil November 27th, 2013

Agape House extends an invitation for community members to join together on December 6th to commemorate Canada’s National Day of Remembrance and Action to End Violence Against Women.  Since 1994 Agape House is proud to host a vigil that remembers the 14 women who were killed at the l’École Polytechnique de Montréal as well as the women who have lost their lives this year from gender based violence.  The vigil will be hosted at three locations across the South Eastman region and will run approximately a half hour in length:

In Otterburne at 11:10 a.m. at Providence University College,

In Beausejour at 4:00 p.m. at Sandy-Saulteaux Spiritual Center,

In Steinbach at 7:00 p.m. at Red River College Steinbach Campus.

December 6th represents opportunity for reflection on the phenomenon of violence against women in our society. It provides a space to consider women for whom violence is a daily lived reality and to commemorate those who have died as a result of gender based violence.  Finally, it provides a time of gathering as a community to respond and take action as we consider the concrete ways we can work to eliminate all forms of violence against women and girls.  Agape House would be honoured with your presence at any of the vigil locations.  Please contact Meghan at (204) 326 6062 if you have any questions.

Agape House – A Safe Place To Grow.  November 2013

The Month of November is designated as Family Violence Prevention Month.

Family Violence Prevention Month  is  a month set aside to bring awareness, and education to the growing issue of domestic violence.

Agape House is utilizing this month to launch their capital campaign “A safe Place to Grow”.

Agape House has been distributing donation boxes shaped as houses in order to raise awareness of the safe house in which women and children access when fleeing domestic and or family violence situations.

The donations collected throughout the month of November will be embarked for a new shelter that will be suited for the many people who access services at Agape House.

It is estimated that the shelter will need to raise 2 million dollars in order to build a state of the art facility, which addresses many community needs.

If you are interested in supporting  this project or would like more information please contact the shelter directly at 204-326-6062.  We also welcome you to fill out our contact form located on this website.
