December 6, 2015 – Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence November 25th, 2015

Vigil Poster
In Canada, December 6 is designated as the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women. Since 1994, Agape House-Eastman Crisis Centre has worked with local communities to remember those women who have lost their lives to acts of violence. At our annual December 6 vigil we remember and honour the 14 women who were gunned down at Ecole Polytechnique in 1989.  We also remember and honour the Manitoba women who have been killed by violence over the past year, and the more than 1000 missing and murdered Aboriginal women throughout Canada.

Agape House strongly believes that in order to end violence against women, we must begin to acknowledge and address gender-based violence at a community level. Over the past 30 years, Agape House has sheltered thousands of women and children seeking refuge from domestic abuse, and has provided non-residential and follow-up supports and services to women and children. Further, we have offered educational and preventative supports, working in partnership with communities to find practical solutions to end violence against women.

The staff and board of Agape House invite you to attend our Annual Memorial Vigil at L.A. Barkman Park in Steinbach, Manitoba on Sunday, December 6, 2015 at 6:30 p.m. This year we will be releasing sky lanterns and a limited number of extra lanterns will be available for purchase by those who wish to commemorate a loved one.  Please contact us at 204-326-6062 for event information and to reserve a sky lantern.

All are welcome – together we can make a difference!
