November is Domestic Violence Prevention Month

The Manitoba government has proclaimed November as Domestic Violence Prevention Month and is urging Manitobans to speak out against abuse. Families Minister Scott Fielding noted, “Individuals, communities and government must work together and take a comprehensive approach to understand and end family violence through public awareness, early education, prevention activities and responsive, coordinated services.

The staff at Agape House/Eastman Crisis Centre Inc., one of 10 women’s shelters in Manitoba that provide emergency shelter and counselling for women and children who are victims of family violence, are stepping up to the challenge by holding a White Ribbon Campaign and a Candlelight Memorial Vigil.

Our goal is to bring awareness to the issue of gender-based violence, involve men and boys in the fight against violence, and to acknowledge the Manitoba women who have been killed by violence this year.
