Who we are.

In December 1985, a group of concerned citizens recognized the lack of a safe place for those experiencing domestic violence in Southeastern Manitoba, so they gathered their resources and created Agape House – a charitable, non-profit organization funded by a grant from the Provincial Government Department of Family Services, alongside vital community donations. Governed by a volunteer Board of Directors, the shelter first operated out of a three-bedroom bungalow. Today, we have 16 beds, see over 200 clients a year, and respond to over 1,000 local crisis calls annually.

Who we help.

Abuse is not always outwardly apparent. Sometimes our clients look just like your neighbour, or the person you greet on the sidewalk every day. As one of ten shelters that work together to cover all of Manitoba, Agape House/Eastman Crisis Centre serves an area that extends north to Beausejour, south to the U.S. Border, west to Winnipeg, and east to the Ontario border.

We offer community counselling services free of charge to all men, women, and children in our catchment area. This includes but is not limited to:
Lorette | Ile de Chenes | Landmark | Zhoda | Marchand | La Broquerie | Giroux | Richer | St. Malo | St-Pierre-Jolys | Otterburne | Ste. Agathe | Niverville | St. Adolphe | Blumenort | Friedensfeld | Grunthal

Why it matters.

Manitoba has higher rates of domestic violence and intimate partner violence than any other province. Agape House offers 24/7, no-cost care for those experiencing abuse – providing shelter, counselling, and ongoing support. Because it happens behind closed doors, you may not realize when someone you know is experiencing abuse. By supporting Agape House, you’re providing that person with a safe place, and safe people, they can reach out to for help.

Our mission
